Behind the site

Media

Videos and visuals I make to go with the writing, mostly for LinkedIn, sometimes just for fun. Each one keeps its drafts, because how it got there is half the story. Clay first, chisel later.

Don't swipe on the photo

What can vulnerability management learn from dating apps? Every finding's profile photo says CRITICAL. Get the whole profile, early. Then be picky, not careless.

Used in: Security is a group project, part 2 · LinkedIn, soon

How it got here

Draft 1: the wall. 400 red tags fade to five. It looked good, but it showed the answer, not the reasons.
Draft 2: one app. Swipe cards, and a score that drops one question at a time. But nobody has 400 criticals in one app; customers look at fleets.
Draft 3: the fleet. 1,200 apps, "ask first", and the near miss. The first frame was washed out, and the first frame is what LinkedIn shows.

Then: a poster for the first frame, and "Get the whole profile, early." That's the one above.

For people short on time

TL;DR

Matt thinks out loud here about technology, mostly how teams decide what to build, fix and protect.

The first series argues that security gets better fastest when the teams that each hold part of the answer share it earlier. Part 2 says most critical findings aren't: seven questions tell you which, and the answers live with other teams. Clay first, chisel later is about roughing out the whole thing before polishing the parts.

Every piece says how much AI helped, and the site changes in the open. The discussion happens on LinkedIn.
